In the family Araceae, the genus Philodendron contains over 450 species of stout-stemmed climbing plants that are indigenous to tropical America. Many species go from being vines to being epiphytes (plants that live upon other plants). Young philodendrons are common potted plants for homes and businesses since they are accustomed to the low light conditions of rainforests.

Philodendron leaves are often green, but they can also be coppery, crimson, or purplish. Parallel leaf veins are typically green, but they can also occasionally be red or white. Species and plant age have a significant impact on the shape, size, and texture of the leaves. A white to orange berry makes up the fruit. It is very impossible to distinguish between distinct species of tiny plants since the juvenile and adult phases are different.
